Movie Set Whitemodel
The design challenge was to create a mechanical mask of a Deathclaw for the game Fallout 3. The idea was to create a unique legendary version of the creature as DLC side quest. I imagined him as a particularly large beast with a uniquely shaped tooth.
The mask was sculpted on a full head lifecast of myself, and molded and cored using gypsum cement. It was constructed from foam latex, fiberglass and two part plastics. It's brow was mechanized using cables on a custom hand controller and the jaw was spring loaded.
A set of white models I built to represent the bridge, Captain's quarters and operations room of a starship. They are meant for a conceptual sequel to the 1956 film Forbidden Planet by MGM Studios. The full bridge model is 1/32 scale and the larger operations room is 1/24 scale. All the pieces had modular parts allowing multiple different view and photography angles
The bridge is meant to be a briefing area incorporating a holographic display. I conceptualized the tables, elevators and chairs lowering themselves flush with the floor when not in use, or raising when needed. The tables double as controls or holographic displays as well and can have any authorized image swiped over to it.

Blue Bug is a custom mechanical creature operated by cable and servo components. The shell armor opens to reveal the insects real face! The story behind this guy is that his species was engineered by alien invaders bent on world domination. Heavily armored and agile, and difficult to kill, but they eggs hatch upon death!
This guy is made from scratch using machined and hand tooled parts. The shells are foam sculpted to shape that were silicone molded and cast with fiberglass. The face and other muscles were hand sculpted in water clay, molded and cast in foam latex.
The shell, mandibles and lower jaw are cable mechs operated by a lever box I built for the project. Each set of eyes is attached to an individual servo programmed to a controller.

This is an original concept of a warrior ogre. It was designed to be a multi-piece makeup prosthetic. This technique is used to maximize the movement of the over all makeup. It was a five piece makeup including a forehead, nose, chin and both ears.
The makeup also included custom dentures and armor. The dentures were hand sculpted on the models teeth castings and painted with tooth stains. The plate armor was cold forged from various gauges of steel and connected with hammered rivets to genuine leather.
ABOUT ME
Hello! I'm Josiah Stormer. I am a special effects artist who loves to conceptualize and build 3-Dimensional artwork! I have a healthy interest in things like horror movies, gaming, fantasy and practical movie effects.
I went from making cardboard armor as a kid to my own Halloween masks as a teenager. I didn't find any happiness in my previous careers, and decided to pursue my lifelong passion for art. Now I continue making fun interesting projects while growing closer to perfecting my craft!

I am willing to make replicas, in limited runs, but prefer to build custom fantasy and sci-fi pieces. I love hearing about and creating new worlds, characters and stories.

Movie Set Whitemodel
This is Hook Tooth the Bone Biter. He is one ugly SOB known for eating people in a small settlement north of Fort Constantine, in the Capital Wasteland. The people are forced to make weekly sacrifices to keep it at bay. They kidnapped strangers to feed the creature until a lone wanderer came to town...
The design challenge was to create a mechanical Deathclaw mask, a monster from the game Fallout 3. The idea was to create a unique legendary version of the creature as a DLC side quest. I imagined him as a particularly large beast with a uniquely shaped tooth.
The mask was sculpted on a full head lifecast of myself, and molded using gypsum cement. It was constructed using foam latex, fiberglass and two part liquid plastics. It's brow was mechanized using cables on a custom hand controller and the jaw was spring loaded.

"Murrey" is a custom mechanical creature operated by cable and servo components. The shell armor opens to reveal the insects real face! The story behind this guy is that his species was engineered by alien invaders bent on world domination. Heavily armored and agile, they are difficult to kill and quickly drive mankind toward extinction.

The plate armor was cold forged from various gauges of steel and connected with hammered rivets to genuine leather. Every piece was designed to articulate as functional armor would. As a last touch I lined the armor with faux-fur.

The Godsunder

The god of light, Vinur, had been using mankind to fight his war against the dark god, Azyaer, for centuries. Until a talented sorceress steals a mysterious orb and uses its power to bind the gods into two halves of a blade. The sword can destroy anything the wielder wills, as long as they can tame and control the orb.
This is a prop sword made up of two identical halves designed to snap together and form into one larger blade. They are cast from two part liquid plastics and painted using lacquer paints. The swords are 47 inches long, and 4.5 inches at the widest point when combined.

ZBrush
A few projects sculpted on ZBrush. The Joker bust was built on a ZSphere armature so it can be posed. The eyes, teeth and other accessories are sub-tools.
The Ornstein helmet was based on a character by the same name from Dark Souls by From Software. It was sculpted on a 3D scan of my lifecast. The project was to digitally create a detailed replica of a video game helmet that could be used for modeling or potential 3D printing.
